The Apache Highlands ecoregion spans 30 million acres, including portions of Arizona and New Mexico in the United States, as well as northern Mexico. It is renown for its “sky islands” — over 40 mountain ranges of pine-oak woodlands and conifer forests that rise abruptly from the the desert floor.
